The Fifth and the Final Installment of Pirates of the Caribbean
Arr mateys! The fifth and final installment of Pirates of the Caribbean movie series titled “Dead Men Tell No Tales” hit the theatres in May 2017, and it was a blast.
Plot and Storyline
The story picks up from where it left off in “On Stranger Tides.” We see Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) down on his luck with no crew, no ship, and no treasure. Meanwhile, an old enemy from Sparrow’s past, Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escapes from the Devil’s Triangle with his crew consisting of undead sailors. Salazar aims to find and kill Jack Sparrow, who he blames for his condition.
In search of a powerful artifact called The Trident Of Poseidon that will help them break their curse, Sparrow teams up with Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites), son of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), who wants to save his father from his own curse. Along with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), an astronomer accused of witchcraft because she understands science, they embark on an epic quest.
The Casts and Acting
Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow in this movie. His performance is, as always, exceptional. Javier Bardem, the antagonist, delivers a chilling and menacing portrayal of Salazar. Brenton Thwaites shines as Henry Turner while Kaya Scodelario provides a strong female character in a story filled with testosterone.
The Score and Popularity
Composer Geoff Zanelli has done a fabulous job of creating the musical score for this film. Johny Cash’s song “Ain’t No Grave” and “He’s A Pirate” from the first movie are also included, which adds nostalgia to the audiences.
“Dead Men Tell No Tales” was one of the most anticipated movies of 2017 among Pirates fans worldwide. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, it grossed over $794 million at the box office worldwide.
Cinematography and Visual Effects
As with all Pirate movies, “Dead Men Tell No Tales” boasts of high-quality visuals and fantastic cinematography. The VFX team has done a brilliant job of creating the undead crew and all the sea creatures. The movie also features some stunning action sequences, which are visually engaging and thrilling to watch.
My Thoughts and Opinions
As a fan of this swashbuckling franchise, I went into “Dead Men Tell No Tales” with both excitement and apprehension. However, I was glad to know that it lived up to my expectations as a Pirate movie enthusiast.
I loved how the story tied up some loose ends from the previous movies while introducing new characters and story arcs. I was impressed by how Zanelli’s score evoked emotions that made me feel connected to Sparrow’s character.
The special effects are top-notch, which is essential in making you feel like you’re on a pirate ship on rough seas. Also, there are several unexpected twists that keep you engaged throughout the movie.
All in all, “Dead Men Tell No Tales” may not be as perfect as the first Pirates movie, but it’s still an excellent addition to this beloved franchise.
