Movie Review: The Rest of Us
I recently watched the movie “The Rest of Us” and I must say, it was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The storyline was simple, yet so powerful that it left me in awe.
The Plot
The movie revolves around two women, Cami and Rachel, who are ex-wife and current wife respectively to a man named Craig. When Craig dies suddenly, Cami and her daughter Aster find themselves homeless as they were financially dependent on him. They seek shelter at Rachel’s house and thus starts an unlikely bond between the four women.
The Characters
Heather Graham played the role of Cami with utmost sincerity. She beautifully portrayed the struggles of a woman who had lost everything. Jodi Balfour as Rachel was equally brilliant in showcasing her emotional turmoil as she takes on the responsibility to provide for another family in addition to her own. Sophie Nélisse as Aster gave a convincing performance as a teenager trying to cope with the loss of her father.
Camila Mendes played the role of Elsie, a woman whom Craig had cheated on Rachel with. Although her role was minor, she left a lasting impression with her performance.
Cinematography and Soundtrack
The cinematography was top-notch and added to the overall emotional appeal of the movie. The hauntingly beautiful soundtrack complemented the story perfectly.
The Story
The movie deals with themes such as grief, loss, family dynamics, and forgiveness. It beautifully showcases how people from different walks of life can come together in times of need and form an unbreakable bond. It also highlights how grief can bring out the worst in people but it’s important to learn to forgive and move on.
My Opinion
As someone who has lost a loved one, this movie struck a chord with me. It made me realize that grief is a universal emotion and we all deal with it differently. The performances were so compelling that I felt every emotion they were going through. Although the plot was simple, it was executed so well that it left a lasting impact on me.
