Girl/Girl Scene: The Movie – A Casual Review
When I first heard about the movie “Girl/Girl Scene: The Movie”, I was excited and skeptical at the same time. As a lesbian, I am always looking for good representation in movies and TV shows. But let’s face it, not all movies with LGBTQ+ themes are good. So, I decided to give this movie a chance, and boy was I surprised.
The storyline
The movie follows the lives of five lesbian friends in Lexington, Kentucky. Their lives are full of drama, love, heartbreaks and self-discovery. The central character is Evan (played by Katie Stewart), who is trying to navigate her feelings for her best friend Maxine (played by Tucky Williams), while dealing with her own personal issues.
The movie touches upon various themes such as mental health, coming out, toxic relationships and finding oneself. It also addresses the issue of homophobia in small towns and how it affects queer people’s lives.
The Casts
I have to say that the cast did a great job portraying their characters. Tucky Williams stands out as Maxine; her acting is raw and emotional, making you feel everything she feels. Katie Stewart delivers a great performance as Evan; you can’t help but root for her throughout the movie. Other cast members such as Maya Jamner (as Avery), L.E. Barone (as Jake) and Michelle Ehlen (as Stacey) did justice to their respective roles.
The Cinematography
The cinematography in the movie is beautiful. The colors and lighting used in the movie give it a dreamy and romantic feel, which complements the theme of the movie. The camera work is also great, and some scenes are shot with such precision that it feels like you are part of the scene.
The Soundtrack
The soundtrack of the movie is amazing, from melancholic tunes to upbeat tracks; every song suits the mood of the scene. The music adds to the overall ambiance of the movie and makes you feel more connected to the characters.
The Popularity
“Girl/Girl Scene: The Movie” is not very popular, but it has its own cult following. The TV series that preceded this movie was pretty popular among LGBTQ+ audiences, and there was a lot of anticipation for this movie. However, due to lack of publicity and promotion, many people are not aware of this gem.
My Evaluation
I loved everything about this movie. It made me laugh; it made me cry, and most importantly, it made me feel seen. As a lesbian who grew up in a small town, I could relate to many aspects portrayed in this movie. I loved how each character had their own storyline and how they all came together at the end.
This movie shows that LGBTQ+ movies don’t have to be preachy or overly dramatic; they can be just as good as any other mainstream movies. It portrays queer love in all its rawness and beauty without resorting to stereotypes or cliches.
Overall Opinion
I highly recommend watching “Girl/Girl Scene: The Movie” if you’re looking for good representation or just a good LGBTQ+ themed movie. It’s a beautiful blend of drama, romance and self-discovery that will leave you feeling satisfied and wanting more. It’s definitely one of my favourite movies, and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves in the future.
