The Other Side of the Door: A Thrilling Spookfest
If you’re searching for a good horror flick, “The Other Side of the Door” might just be what you need. Director Johannes Roberts creates an eerie tale that taps into every fear you’ve had about ghost stories. With Sarah Wayne Callies and Jeremy Sisto in lead roles, “The Other Side of the Door” offers plenty to enjoy from a great cast to beautiful locations and fantastic cinematography.
The Plot
The movie opens up with Maria – played by Sarah Wayne Callies – who is grieving over the loss of her son Oliver, who drowned in a river. She gets introduced to an Indian woman who claims that there’s a way for her to connect with Oliver’s spirit. Maria finds out about a ritual she can perform at an abandoned temple in India where she must open and close a door on the right side while calling out her son’s name. However, she must not open it again under any circumstances.
Of course, things don’t go according to plan as Maria breaks the rules and does open it again – this leads to some chilling events that unfold and create havoc in her home setting along with nearby areas.
Casts & Acting
Sarah Wayne Callies, who played Lori Grimes in “The Walking Dead” and Gretchen in Prison Break, shines once again with her performance as a mother struggling with grief. She perfectly portrays the anxiety and fear of a mother who has lost her son and can’t seem to let go.
Jeremy Sisto, known for his roles in “Clueless” and “Six Feet Under,” provides a stable performance as Maria’s husband Michael. He balances out Maria’s emotions and brings what stability he can to their relationship.
Cinematography & Special Effects
“The Other Side of the Door” boasts beautiful locations especially during scenes shot in India. The aerial shots provide an excellent view of India’s landscape, which will make you want to visit for sure! Besides locations, the film uses special effects to create quite haunting images that linger after scenes have wrapped up.
The Soundtrack
The soundtrack is eerie enough to give you chills but not too over-the-top – just perfect for a horror flick. You’ll find yourself tensing up with every beat that accompanies the film.
Popularity and Critique
“The Other Side of the Door” didn’t get much attention in theaters but has gained some traction since its release on DVD. Critics had mixed reviews, but overall it’s worth a watch if you’re into spooky tales. However, some have criticized the film’s lack of originality and stereotypical horror tropes.
Final Verdict
“The Other Side of the Door” doesn’t necessarily push any new boundaries or breakaway from traditional horror flicks, but it definitely does not disappoint. If you’re in for a ride with chills down your spine accompanied by great acting and wonderful locations, this movie is intended for you!
